Volunteer Spotlight

Sandeep Chhabra

I’ve been a part of the RHS family since my daughter started high school, and she’s now in 10th grade. I’ve been an active volunteer since her middle school years, and it’s been such a rewarding journey to stay involved in her school life. One of my first volunteering experiences at RHS was during Picture Day when my daughter was in 9th grade. It was a wonderful opportunity to meet the teachers, other volunteers, and the students. I was truly amazed by the organization, discipline, and efficiency of the entire process, as well as the passion of the volunteers who made it all run so smoothly. Recently, I had the chance to volunteer as part of the inventory team, where I met other parents and learned so much from their experiences.

What I love most about volunteering is the chance to connect with the school community and be part of an environment that supports our children’s growth. It’s inspiring to witness the dedication and school spirit that make RHS so special. I encourage anyone who’s interested in getting more involved to join us! The school thrives on parent participation, and it’s a great way to connect and make a difference.

What motivates you to volunteer for your kids' schools? I’m motivated by the opportunity to stay connected with my daughter’s school experience and contribute to the community that plays such a big role in shaping her education. Volunteering allows me to give back and support the efforts of teachers, staff, and students. It's also a wonderful way to show my daughter that being involved and giving time to others is important.

What do you gain from volunteering? Volunteering has given me a deeper appreciation for the hard work that goes into making the school run smoothly. I’ve built connections with other parents, teachers, and students, which has helped me feel more engaged with the school community. It’s also been personally rewarding to know that I can help make a difference, even in small ways.

What are some of your best moments in your capacity as a volunteer? One of my best moments was during Picture Day when I got to meet so many teachers, parents, and students. The energy and organization were impressive, and it was heartwarming to see how much everyone cared about making the day a success. Another great moment was volunteering for the inventory team, where I met other dedicated parents and learned from their experiences. Seeing the behind-the-scenes efforts that go into school events has been truly inspiring.

What would you say to someone who’s thinking of volunteering? I’d say, go for it! Volunteering is a fantastic way to get involved, meet new people, and really understand the heartbeat of the school. Whether you have a lot of time or just a little, there are so many ways to contribute. Plus, it’s incredibly rewarding to know that you’re helping to support the school and the students. You’ll feel more connected and have fun while making a positive impact.

See you around RHS! Go Stangs!

Hello RHS Community! We are new to RHS with a 9th grader (‘28) and also have a 6th grader who will be joining his brother in three years (‘31).

As a former photography and art teacher in New York and in Hong Kong, I greatly enjoy working with children of all ages and being in the school environment. For the past ten years, I’ve been an active volunteer in my children’s schools and am very much looking forward to continuing the journey at RHS!

What I love about volunteering at RHS is that it provides you with a glimpse of what high school is all about for our children, as well as the opportunity to engage with the community. All of the parent volunteers and staff I have met so far have been very helpful and friendly, and just all around wonderful!

One of the best moments at RHS has been the Spring Formal Dance ‘24. It was a lovely event where hundreds of students came to enjoy the night, and I remember sharing the sentiment with other parents how everyone seemed to be having great fun but did not lose sight in being well-behaved and polite!

As we all know, RHS is a huge school, and the community’s dedication and support are paramount in its success. If you are able to and interested in volunteering, keep your eyes open for the newsletters and posts asking for help – there will be many opportunities throughout the year.

See you at the school! Go Stangs!!!
