Investing in Every Student:

Why the 2026 LWSD Levies Matter

Vote YES for our kids!

Lake Washington School District voters will soon consider two levy renewals on the February 10, 2026 ballot. These measures that directly shape the daily experience of every student in our schools. These levies are not new taxes; they simply continue the community-funded support that keeps classrooms strong, buildings safe, and learning opportunities equitable.

What These Levies Do

The 2026 measures renew funding for essential programs, staffing, technology, and building upkeep—areas where state funding falls short. Together, they ensure students have the tools, support, and environments they need to thrive, whether they’re preparing for college, technical training, or entering the workforce.

Proposition 1: Renewal of the Educational Programs & Operations (EP&O) Levy

This levy continues funding for critical student services and staff positions that the state does not fully support. This levy accounts for 16% of the districts overall operating budget. Key Benefits:

  • Specialized Student Programs: Sustains services for Special Education, multilingual learners, early learning, and highly capable students—programs that help every child access the right level of challenge and support.
  • Health & Wellness Staffing: Funds counselors, nurses, and mental health professionals who ensure students are healthy, safe, and ready to learn.
  • Operational Stability: Maintains the programs and day‑to‑day operations that keep schools running smoothly.
Proposition 2: Renewal of the School Technology & Capital Projects Levy

This levy keeps LWSD’s learning environments modern, safe, and equipped for the future. Key Benefits:

  • Up-to-Date Learning Technology: Provides and refreshes classroom devices, digital curriculum, and the infrastructure that powers innovative instruction.
  • Building Maintenance & Upgrades: Funds essential repairs and updates to HVAC, electrical systems, and other building components—ensuring safe, comfortable, and efficient learning spaces.
  • Technology Training: Supports staff development so educators can use technology effectively to enhance student learning.
A Smart, Local Investment

These levies stay entirely within our community and directly benefit LWSD students. They expire every four years and must be renewed to continue funding. As property values and new construction increase, the tax rate per household has historically decreased—meaning the community supports more students with proportionally less individual burden over time.

Looking Ahead

From classroom technology to mental health support, from building upkeep to specialized learning programs, these levy renewals sustain the foundation of excellence our community expects. They ensure that every student—across every school—has access to the opportunities and support they need to succeed.

Election Day is February 10, 2026. Ballots will be mailed January 21, with drop boxes opening January 22.
